Hello! My name is Anna Milanowski and I am so excited to begin my fourth year here at Wines! I am a true midwesterner. I grew up on the west side of the state and moved to Ann Arbor to attend the University of Michigan as an undergraduate. I then taught in Chicago for four years in a Spanish-English bilingual school while receiving my Master's degree in Elementary Education from Northwestern University. Most recently, I spent three years in Detroit coaching other teachers in student-centered learning and teaching on the Southwest side of Detroit. After teaching in both Chicago and Detroit I am very happy to be back in Ann Arbor.
Second grade is a huge growing year for children. We will be working to become attentive, persevering readers who notice letter patterns and can use a variety of strategies to read new words. We will develop our writing so that we can write a variety of stories from personal narratives to biographical books. In math, we will begin working with larger numbers as we add and subtract. Finally, in Science we will be observing the natural world around us as we learn about life cycles, rocks and concepts of matter. Second grade is a big year where great learning will happen!

Meet Our Teaching Intern!
Hi! My name is Lauren Hansen and I'm thrilled to be here at Wines for my year of student teaching. I know that I'll learn a lot from these second graders and I only hope that I can help them to learn and grow, too! I am passionate about all learning and exploring, but some of my favorite subjects in school are Reading and Art. In my free time, I like to read novels, cook delicious food, create art, and spend time with my sweet puppy.
I am so excited to get started this year. I plan to learn as much as possible about each student, to practice building relationships, and to learn about establishing and maintaining a classroom culture founded on respect and community. I already know it is going to be a wonderful school year!
